 In January 2023, 653,104 people experienced homelessness in the United States, which was a 12.1% increase from the previous year: 

• This was the highest number of people experiencing homelessness since the point-in-time counts began in 2007 
• 39.3% of people experiencing homelessness, or 256,610 people, were unsheltered 
• 60.7% of homeless Americans lived in shelters 

The main reason is that people can't find affordable housing. Other reasons include domestic violence, chronic health conditions, and systemic inequality
